This is an update on the Chrono Underground project - a fresh idea designed to get young people interacting in an exciting place. Right now I, project director, am studying at the University of Iowa and haven't had the opportunity to keep up with getting more fundraising and publicity for this plan.

Good afternoon! I wanted to take a moment to announce the fact that we may soon be changing the name of the project to something more creative and imaginative and local. Chrono Underground is a very unique, hard to forget name, but we are hoping to create a new name with the sort of recognition that will bring plenty of attention to our project.

Announcing our new proposed name: Muscateen Center. Send us your comments, suggestions, thoughts, and more.

(Muscatine Journal) MUSCATINE, Iowa - Nathan Cory Foutch wants a place in Muscatine where he can 'throw down' with friends.

But the 19-year-old doesn't want to fight.

"When gamers get together ... we pretty much challenge our skills — any video game, anytime, anywhere kind of thing," Foutch said.

He and four teenage friends spent several months planning a youth video game center they are asking the community to help get off the ground.

The center would offer youth a variety of games to play on Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 video game consoles, or online on computers.

Help Us Change The Community

By Ryan Kopf - Mar. 09, 2008

We started this project right at the beginning of 2008, to try to get the community rallied together behind young people in Muscatine. Our youth are often given so few opportunities, and wind up abusing drugs and alcohol. The evidence is all around us. Earlier in February, MHS held a forum as a reaction to two arrests, multiple suspensions, and two students voluntarily leaving school as a result of drugs in our high school (source).

This project is our reaction to the problems plaguing the community. We feel very strongly that the reason we have so many drug problems is because young people often feel alone and afraid, especially with the rising pressures in the world including work, family, school, and more. The progression into high school and beyond shows that life often does not get easier, and students turn to drugs and alcohol when they have no other alternatives.

Our goal is to provide a place dedicated to fixing this problem - and we know how to do it. A clinical, sterile set of rigid steps is not the answer this time. Our answer is to help students build a network of friends, and have a safe, positive atmosphere to hang out with them. We will bring teenagers to our community focused youth center by actually focusing on what youth want. We will provide them with real entertainment and ensure that we never lose focus on our mission. We want to provide a safe, but attractive atmosphere free of drugs.
